For actors and actresses, finding a photographer in L.A for headshots can be a nerve wrecking tasks. You have some acting workshops under your belt and finally landed a talent agency for representation. You’re so excited and can’t wait to start going out on auditions. Then the Agency tells you that you need to update your headshots. Some will leave it up to the actor to find a photographer they know and trust, but many will not. Many agencies will recommend for example “I’m the Best” Photography Studio. You get there already stressed out and feeling under the pressure from your agency, only become more stressed out by the vibe and environment of the studio. If done correctly the photography session should not be rushed, the photographer should take time to sit with you, talk about your career, life, goals, experiences, just take the time to get to know you before any images are captured. The actor needs to feel 100% comfortable in order for the perfect headshot to be captured. I tell my customers all the time that with headshots and portraits its about 10% the photographer and his equipment and 90% Interaction between photographer and client. Just as in acting, in order to give the best performance you need to be 100% comfortable in your surroundings and abilities. So you leave “I’m The Best” Studios paying $500-$700 only to receive low-resolution thumbnail images that you must choose one or two. Meanwhile the Agency or manager that referred the photographer is getting a kickback from the money you paid. It’s a scam and doesn’t have to be like this. I hate seeing fellow actors and actresses get taken advantage of. You see it a lot in life but especially in this industry. Another tip regarding agencies is if they ask you to pay them money upfront for representation run like hell. Talent agencies only get paid when they find you work.
I work independently as a headshot photographer. All my clients come from word of mouth and personal referrals. I also keep my prices very affordable compared to many of hundreds of photography studios in the Los Angeles Area. Along with this I provide all my clients with ALL full resolution images from our sessions. You own all images and are free to do what you wish with them. You are not required to have our logo or information on the photograph, and you do not need a special license or permission to reproduce or use to your liking. We simply ask that you let your friends, fans and family know where you got your headshots when asked. We also include several free touched up images with each of our packages as well. Sessions are done outdoors or within our comfortable and safe home studio in Santa Clarita. Our studio is located within a gated community with plenty of free parking available. Upon arrival we will take some time to chat and get to know one another, we may even play some improv exercises and games just to break the ice, get comfortable and a little bit silly before our shoot begins. After the shoot you will receive your images via dropbox download. I encourage all my clients to connect and stay in touch with me on Facebook, Instagram, email etc. As an actor myself it is about creating relationships and staying in touch with one another as we enjoy the beautiful journey. Connect with your teachers and peers from your acting workshops. Connect and stay in touch with fellow cast you meet on set. Share information and knowledge, and always try to help others. This is what separates successful people from unsuccessful people. But most importantly have fun and enjoy the journey of life. See you in the studio or on set
